  • God’s Still Creating – David Carter | Sermon from 9/3/2017

    9-3-web

The beginning of any movie sets the scene for everything that follows. If you’ve ever walked into a movie late, you know that catching up on what you missed in the first few moments is crucial. The beginning of our story is just as important. Our story begins with “In the beginning, God…” God created everything, everywhere. And God is still working in our world today, in each one of our lives. In this message we dive into how the beginning of our story can help us understand how God is still creating in our lives today.

  • VACATION – Home Again | Sermon from 8/27/2017

    Vacation Series-web

Every vacation comes to end. Whether it is a week at the beach or a summer off from school, vacations end and we all head home again. While home provides the sweet relief of comfortable routines of work and school that give our lives structure and balance, there also come stress and burdens. Jesus and a few of his disciples had a true mountain top experience and then headed home again. This Sunday we will learn from Jesus’ example and teaching how to survive the end of vacations and the reality of heading back to work and back to school and back to the “real world”.

  • VACATION – Grange Fair – Family, Friends & Food | Sermon from 8/20/2017

    Vacation Series-web

For many people in Centre County, summer vacation plans always include The Grange Fair. Whether you tent, take an RV or just go for the day, the Grange Fair is a tradition for many, but why do people go? When I have asked people that question I have consistently gotten one of three answers, to be with family, to see my friends, to eat food. What many of us love about vacations is time with family and friends and the opportunity to eat good food. Family, friends and food are not just the foundation of the fair and our vacations, they are the building blocks of life and faith. Join us as we explore the role of family, friends and food in our lives and in our faith.

  • VACATION – Rest Stops are Important | Sermon from 8/6/2017

    Vacation Series-web

I am a destination hiker. I like to go straight to the desired location and then stop to enjoy the view, but I have hiking friends who really enjoy the journey. They like to stop and look at flowers, trees and anything else they find interesting along the way. Over the years they have slowed me down and have taught me that rest stops are important. In our life and faith we can get so goal and destination oriented that we forget to seek God along the way. Join us as we learn from Moses and Jesus how rest stops can help us learn, listen and love more faithfully.

This Sunday we end our look at the Apostle’s Creed by looking at the end of life. While the creed affirms that we believe in the resurrection of the body and in life everlasting, the specifics of this are unclear. While the teaching of Jesus and the witness of scripture clearly points us to a resurrection and eternal life, there are no solid details provided. So what do we believe about a bodily resurrection and what is life in heaven like? Join us as we explore these questions and more.

  • I Believe – The Apostles’ Creed – Forgiveness | Sermon from 7/16/2017

    I Believe-sweb

This week we see that the focus of the Apostles’ Creed is not on guilt but grace. It doesn’t point out that we are sinners but instead assures us that we are forgiven. While the forgiveness of sin does imply that we are sinners, the focus is not on our failure but God’s love. Forgiveness of sin was the core of Jesus ministry and teaching and it is what helps hold us together as the church. This week we will hear once again about the forgiveness of our sin and be reminded that we need to forgive others.
