  • Prayer Part 2 – Lessons on Prayer from Others – Give Thanks | Sermon from 4/19/2015

    prayer part 2 pic-web

Leading up to Easter, we took several weeks to learn about prayer from the life and teaching of Jesus, but there are other Biblical leaders who have something to teach us about prayer. For the next three weeks we will consider what the Apostle Paul, David and Elijah each have to say about prayer. Their faith and trust in God are a great example for us to follow and how they prayed and what they taught about prayer can continue to keep our prayers and faith strong. Explore how Being Thankful, Being Real and Being Quiet can enhance our prayers, deepen our faith and strengthen our lives. Hear the Apostle Paul remind us to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus.”

    eyes were opened-web

After his resurrection, Jesus revealed himself to his followers when He broke and gave them bread. Today we still see Jesus in simple acts of giving and we reveal Jesus to others when we are willing to serve. We once again see Jesus in the breaking of bread during Holy Communion and as together we learn how to be that broken bread which reveals the living Christ to the world.

  • Easter Sunday – He Is Not Here | Sermon from 4/5/2015

    he is not here

It is hard for us on Easter when we come together saying, Christ is Risen (Christ is Risen Indeed) to think about what it must have been like for Mary, Peter, John and the rest of Jesus’ disciples.  They didn’t know the end of the story – they only knew what had happened in the [...]

  • Maundy Thursday – From Prayer to Action | Sermon from 4/2/2015

    basin and towel-web

Jesus didn’t just pray and teach us how to pray, he lived out his prayers with conviction and courage.  During the final days of his life, Jesus turned his prayers into loving actions of service and hospitality as he washed the disciples’ feet and hosted their Passover Meal. We remember these events and ask God for the courage and conviction to follow the example of Jesus and turn our prayers into action.

  • Opening the Door – Purpose | Sermon from 3/29/2015

    940x250 opening the door

It’s Palm Sunday which marks the beginning of Jesus’ final week. Jesus began the day on the Mount of Olives where he could look out over the city of Jerusalem and think about all that was to come for him and for his disciples.  His prayer that week was that his followers would never forget the purpose God had for them.  We conclude our series on prayer by exploring this final prayer of Jesus which was not just for his disciples then but for the church today.

  • Opening the Door – Faith | Sermon from 3/22/2015

    940x250 opening the door

What does it mean when we pray “in Jesus name”? What role does our faith play when it comes to God answering our prayers? When Jesus says we can ask for anything in his name and he will provide, why don’t we always get what we want? These are some of the difficult questions we explore as we continue to open the door to God through prayer.

  • Opening the Door – Boldness | Sermon from 3/15/2015

    940x250 opening the door

What makes our prayers more than just wishful thinking? It’s the expectation that God not only hears us when we pray but wants to and is able to help us. Jesus tells a story which teaches us that God is able to help us and that God is motivated by His perfect love to help us which means we can be BOLD when we pray. Continue opening the door to a deeper life of prayer and a more personal relationship with God.

  • Opening the Door – Together | Sermon from 3/8/2015

    940x250 opening the door

Drawing from the prayers of God’s people, Jesus gave his disciples a model for prayer that has endured for over 2000 years. The Lord’s Prayer isn’t the prayer Jesus prayed, but the prayer Jesus gave us so we would know how to pray. The prayer brings us together and identifies us as followers of Jesus and as we use it in our prayer life it connects us to one another and to God so that His kingdom and will can be done on earth as it is in heaven. Open the door and examine the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Opening the Door – Persist | Sermon from 3/1/2015

    940x250 opening the door

We continue to open the door to a deeper life of prayer and faith by discovering the value of persistence. We don’t persist in prayer to wear God down until we get our way, we persist because we believe God is honorable and will act with justice and compassion. We also persist in prayer so that we will become honorable and act with justice and compassion.
