Let The Games Begin! The Olympic Games are going on right now. After years of training we see athletes competing at the top of their game. No athlete arrives in Rio alone. They are all part of a team. They are part of a national Olympic team with other athletes in other sports, but each athlete also has their own team of family, friends, trainers, coaches and others who have helped them along the way. In the race of faith we all need a team. We need to ask ourselves two important questions: Who is on your team? & Whose team are you on?

The Olympic Games start next Friday and all the athletes heading to Rio have spent years training for this moment. They have visualized winning the gold, they have set goals that have helped them move from one level to the next and they have worked hard to get to the very top of their game. Training is also part of our race of faith. Like Olympic athletes, we need to fix our eyes on the prize, set goals and work hard so that our faith will grow strong. • Cave Stories – David | Sermon from 7/10/2016

    Cave Stories - David-web

For the next two weeks, Faith Church will be turned into a cave to celebrate our Cave Quest Bible School. Since the children will be learning about God in a cave I thought it would be interesting to go back in history to see what lessons God taught people in caves. In a time of despair, David but his trust in God and in a cave was able to rejoice. From David’s cave story we learn how to trust God at all times and in all places. Take refuge and rejoice in a cave.

In our drive to grab hold of it all, it becomes very tempting to take short cuts. Compromising on our values at work to get the promotion, cheating on exams in school to get the grades, conforming to today’s culture to keep the friends, the temptation to take short cuts is everywhere and usually leads us to becoming the people we never wanted to be. This week we learn how pausing in the midst of this temptation to consider two important questions can help us stand strong.

  • Pause – Proving Ground | Sermon from 6/19/2016

Jesus was tempted to prove He was the son of God by taking a step off the pinnacle of the temple and forcing God to save Him before He hit the ground. We are often tempted to leverage the power of God in our lives by asking God to bless our plans or take care for our problems before we hit the ground. A better life is found in cooperating with God for his purposes instead of manipulating God for ours. Learn how to pause in our fight against temptation and cooperate with God.

Many of the temptations we face in life center on meeting a legitimate (even God given) need in an illegitimate way. Jesus was tempted to turn stones to bread to feed himself physically during a time of great hunger, but Jesus reminded himself and us that in all situations we are to trust God to meet our needs. Learn how to pause in the midst of temptation and find or confidence in God – our Soul (and Sole) Provider.
