Looking ahead to the holidays . . .
Although it seems early to be thinking of the United Methodist Women’s Holiday Bazaar in November, the Prayer Quilt and Shawl ministry prepares this far in advance to have sufficient time to make the many items we sell there. We’re already at work making quilts and smaller items like table runners, hot pads, reversible aprons, Christmas ornaments, pen/pencil holders, quilted note cards, coasters, and much more. Beat the summer heat in the air conditioning while we get ready for Christmas!
By the way, these make great gifts for any time of year! Want to purchase one for a great birthday or wedding gift? Contact Janice McDowell at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn how.
Prayer Quilt and Shawl Ministry gatherings this summer are on Mondays, 10 AM to 3 PM in room 40 at Faith Church:
What is the Prayer Quilt and Shawl minstry?
The mission of the Prayer Quilt and Shawl Ministry is to provide quilts and shawls to surround our members and friends of Faith Church with love as they go through various difficult life situations.
These quilts and shawls are shared in many ways by many people. They are given
- to those who are living in facilities outside their homes or are homebound,
- to children baptized at Faith,
- to members and friends currently serving in the military,
- as gifts to those we serve on mission trips.
In addition, when we have an extra supply, the quilts and shawls are distributed to area assisted-living homes and Mount Nittany Medical Center.
The quilts and shawls are also available for the cost of a donation to cover the purchase of materials to those who are not affiliated with Faith Church. Please contact the church office at 814.355.3358 if you know anyone who would benefit from receiving one.
Throughout the year, our group also creates smaller items, such as table runners, hot pads, aprons, wall hangings, etc. to be sold at the United Methodist Women’s holiday bazaar in November. This sale is our main fundraiser.
How do I get involved?
New participants are always welcome. Quilters use a pattern to construct a quilt using the blocks, squares, and/or strips of fabric which are already cut. Several people use the same pattern, making the process collaborative and fun.
Those who knit and/or crochet are also invited since we have several people who create beautiful shawls and lap quilts in that manner.
While we don’t offer instructions on how to quilt, knit or crochet, you don’t need to have these skills to join in–there are many tasks that non-sewers can do!
We have been fortunate enough to purchase and house at the church the supplies needed to make the items mentioned and they can be used by anyone who attends. We learn, exchange ideas, and share in Christian fellowship. The group meets on the first and third Mondays of each month from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM in room 40 at Faith Church.
